Exclusive | I wrote the iconic Knicks Thematic Song 30 years ago: Here are how much they paid me

One Long Island Kid’s Hoop Dream became a timeless hole.

In 1993, Jesse Itzler, a new university graduate and Knicks, had a dream of writing the thematic song of his favorite team.

“I was born of a Knicks fan and I always loved its grana,” the 56 -year -old New Yorker, resorted to the golden age of the team, with legends such as Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley and John Starks presented on the posters on the bedroom wall of all sports.

“I had an idea to write a song that succeeded in singing people in the garden for a while waiting,” said Itzler to the publication of the Knick’s return on the Eastern Conference Finals, highlighting the hunger for a higher energy at that time. “At the NBA Games suddenly there were dancers and entertainment of Knicks City.”

The Fan of Uber Knicks, Jesse Itzler, dreamed of creating a thematic song for the team. “My life has taken a crazy turn since then,” he told The Post. @Jesseitzler/Instagram

The growing rapper, which was named after the Jesse Jaymes stage in the early 1990’s, and the future entrepreneurial legend that went to marry -Sara Blakely, Sara Blakely, knew that this was her only shot.

“So many people say to me,” This was the soundtrack of my 90 “… It lasts more than 30 years is incredible.”

Inside the closet of his 300 -foot hike in New York, which he shared with a roommate, he began recording the lyrics of the sticky and lasting anthem: “Go New York.”

Cassette in his hand, marked a meeting with Knicks Bigwigs (including President Dave Checketts and executive Ernie Grunfeld) and the brief demonstration won them.

After making some time adjustments for this year’s All-Star game, the iconic “Go New York” was born.

The salary was great $ 4,000, enough to cover your $ 350 monthly rental for a year, with pizza money, but as Itzler said, “would have paid them $ 10,000 only to use it.”

Itzler, shown here in 2015, went on to make the Knicks thematic song.

“It took a while to go -the first couple of games, no one really knew what was really happening,” he recalled, adding that the anthem was promoted on the towels for the electronics giant, that no one exceeds Wiz.

But the 75-second song, which Itzler was adjusted each year for the first decade with guests such as Q-TIP, Mobb Deep, Ed Lover, DJ Skribble and Angie Martinez, finally won the fans.

And once he became a radio degree with the neoyorcans addicted to the sticky melody, “It was game over”.

At the age of 23, Itzler was excited to mark “like two whitening seats” to enjoy the fruits of his work echo throughout the iconic stadium, which was “completely well” with the fan of Startruck. “I just wanted to be in the sand.”

Now, more than 30 years later, he pays complete goods for his Tix court season (without celebrity for him) and still maintains that he would have paid the team of his own pocket only to get this shot.

“My life has taken a crazy turn since then,” said the entrepreneur, extreme resistance athlete and best -selling author. “I have had some big victories, but it was the beginning of everything for me.”

However, even after building five companies, its base is Knicks Love.

Writing this song was a more prominent point in his life, until then and since. Apart from his wedding and the births of his four children, Knicks’s song is “one of the three greatest moments in my life.”

“So many people say,” This was the soundtrack of my 90’s, “he said proudly.” Investment performance is not $ 4,000 but is connected to this team. ”

Itzler said that the longevity of the anthem is about fans. “There is no promotion behind, there is no record. Everything is generated by fan.”

He only made $ 4,000 on the short court, but according to Itzler, he said in the publication, “I would have paid them $ 10,000 only to use it.” @Jesseitzler/Instagram

Listening to the people on the street is still blowing, adding that playing a small role in the unifying power of New York’s favorite basketball team still gives it chills.

“Knicks are the main glue in the city: they gather all areas of life, districts, demographics, colors and religions,” he thought. “And the song is a part of this, it’s crazy.”

His “greatest emotion” is when he feels the anthem sung off the court.

“It’s amazing when people sing it in the garden, but it’s not as surprising as when people sing it on the street. It’s a real time,” he added.

Itzler is accustomed to exhausting efforts: he completed a month of extreme fitness formation that culminated in his best -selling book in 2016, “Living with a Seal: 31 Days Fraying with the hardest man on the planet”. But wait 25 long years for your team to be in the championship again is even sweeter than this accomplishment.

“This is more rewarding,” than that exhausting fitness regime, he said.

Although he is now a partial owner of the Atlanta Hawks, where he lives with Blakely and his children, Itzler’s love adventure with the Knicks has not faded.

Although he will not make predictions, Itzler is pumped for a great victory.

Itzler said in the publication that “a real sports fan is with a team through good and bad,” emphasizing his devotion to the Hoopsters. Taylor Prokes

“A real sports fan is with a team through good and bad,” said Itzler. This season’s team echoes the vibrations of the Knicks at that time, when “Go New York” became “the shout of manifestation of the 90’s,” he said.

“This team is very similar to the 90’s, with the grit, being a subdog and personalities similar to players during this time,” said Itzler, a great fan of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anshony Towns. “I love them all.”

For the Eastern Conference Finals, Itzler plans to take their children to the place where everything began, “so that they can hear -everything in the arena”.

“It’s amazing when people sing it in the garden, but it’s not as amazing as when people sing it on the street,” itzler told The Post. Filmmaker

“The most important thing for me is that my children see it. And it takes me to the time,” he said.

“I was a Knicks fan from day one, to write this song, I would have done it for free. It lasts over 30 years is incredible.”
